Expand Appearance is one of the most useful and commonly used commands.. Get used to it! =)

Expand Appearance basically turns any “live” effects or commands you have on the artwork, and draws them into true shapes… so if you have a square with some effect applied to it, and go into outline mode, (CMD + Y) you will see that your square is still really just a square path.. But when you expand appearance, illustrator redraws the path, to match what your square looked like with the effect.. The effect is lost, and the square path is redrawn to match the effect.

Don’t worry again lol…. i just figured this one out as well. You have to unite the image before you delete the path with the direct selection tool.Loving this tutorial, a good challenge!

Don’t worry I’ve figured that out. But I still have a quick question… why do you delete the paths at starting at 2.57 to 3.01? Im trying to do it but it keeps deleting the image in parts. I have followed religiously but not working at that part? Please help if you can. Thanks.

Can someone explain to me the expand appearance tool please. Why is it used? Thanks in advance.

@teckguytales considering it says “pro” tutorial, i think he would assume you have at least basic knowledge of the software and can follow along with him at this pace.. as it’s really not that hard to follow what hes doing if you’ve spent any significant amount of time working with Illustrator.

this is not a tutorial, but anyway, its good, it would be better if you put annotations to it. so even the begginers can catch up you’re doing. anyway, still a good video. =)
